Inspired by the spirit of Kintsugi philosophy I am moved to make portraits that reveal the inner value exposed when people are physically, mentally or emotionally damaged. Like pottery, the human mind, body and spirit is subject to wear, tear and breakage. As we go through life we gather honorable scars that tell the history of existence in human form. Breakage is inevitable and the process of repair can be long and difficult. We must not allow these fractures to diminish our self image. Rather, we can understand that fault-lines reveal inner value previously concealed.
We are all damaged goods. Everyone. We must repair what it means to be broken. By our own pain we know the suffering of others. And when we are honest, not disguising our damaged history, we allow inner radiant strength to shine for those who are still in dark places.
I am accepting Kintsugi Portrait commissions. This is a portrait you commission for yourself. Perhaps you’ll show it to no one else! View it whenever you need a reminder of your inner self worth. Look into the mirror, wipe away some of the dirt and grime. Peer deep into your wounds and see the gold embedded in your heart and soul. All genders, all ages.
Contact me by email. Send me an existing photo. Even a selfie! Alas, as digital nomad who needs money for gas and food I must charge a commission fee. $290. Credit card, check or PayPal.
